Almond Butter: PB's protege

Peanut butter.

Europeans can't stand the stuff. Not that I'm obsessed with it, I just don't see how they can't care for it at all. Luisa bought us some in Spain a couple times, and thought she was pretty clever. But she wouldn't eat it.

PB's cousin, almond butter, is awesome. They have these little machines at Whole Foods where you can grind your own. For a girl who has stared wistfully at the grocery store coffee grinders my whole life (strange, I know), this is a satisfying substitute.

Sometimes, growing up rocks.

(you've gotta do the 'natural' kind so to avoid that pesky 'partially hydrogenated' oil, plus it tastes better)

Which is why I thought it was funny when I was spreading almond butter on an apple at work, one of the other interns, Melissa, (from Italy, and no, not in the "My grandfather was half-Italian" way), goes:

"Vhat ees dat?"

So I tell her to taste it, and then she grins with her thick accent says:

"Estrainge."

I love her.
