Isn't it weird how you can get so egotistical about life that you don't take the time to talk with people you see every day or that you love most?
Example #1:
We have to do this food vendor story for my class, where we have to interview one and write about it. I've been putting it off (and so has everyone else) because I just thought it would be awkward and invasive (my biggest issues with what I do). We had the CEO from the Street Vendor Project come and talk to us (very interesting) and I still wasn't motivated. I'm not scared, I'm just really sensitive of being intrusive. So anyways, I'm walking home yesterday after class and I decide what the heck (well the looming deadline was also a factor). We had the most pleasant chat. He's from Bangladesh, has been in the US for 26 years, really sweet man. It was amazing how kind he was. I'm going to go back later tonight and chat some more and get more information.
Example #2:
Yesterday I get an "urgent" voicemail from my little sister Katherine telling me to call immediately, but I didn't call back until late because I assumed it was some trivial matter about her school drama or whatever (sorry, K!).
Turns out my dad almost had a heart attack today. They caught it in time, so he had angioplasty. He's fine- he'll be in the hospital another night. But even though my daddio has an admitted "problem" with goldfish crackers, wheat thins and creme soda, its weird to think he came so close to dying! He and my mom are so healthy! They both play tennis and my mom plays beach volleyball with her friends, not to mention she is a really good cook.
So you know, even amidst my admittedly glamorous life of working at a glossy magazine where I get schmoozed by Beverly Hills nightclub, hotel and boutique PR people or write about the latest gala hosted by Richard Simmons...
Or living with a girl who met the Ronson's yesterday at a photo shoot (Samantha, L. Lohan's 'friend' ; Mark the DJ ; and Charlotte the clothing designer), prepares CDs for Madonna, or hand-delivers Dolce & Gabbana.... (Oh, PS she met Penn Badgley and Blake Lively early Sunday morning at her friend's sister's apartment building).
SO...even amidst all that, my point is that my family is who will always be number one to me.
Okay gotta run, I have to go write about the designers who make these chandeliers.
Just another day at the office...albeit in SoHo.
