Arguably the best music video ever made:
Destiny's Child- Bills, Bills, Bills
Don't worry, I'm not some technical music video junkie who knows what she's talking about, but I do know that I am in many ways my mother's daughter, in that she wants to be a black woman: from their gorgeous ebony skin color to their no-nonsense "huumph" attitude.
So yeah, there are WAY too many good things about Bills, Bills, Bills:
The synchronized head stare that coincides with the beginning of the music.
The trash-tastic outfits.
The booty rolling.
The curves.
The hair.
The fact that it's set in a weave-tastic beauty salon.
Krystyna and Emily will remember...we were walking to a Cuban restaurant in Harlem summer '08 and passed a salon chock-FULL of beautiful black women getting their hair done for the weekend. It was one of the most amazing sights I've ever seen.
I wanted to keep staring at them...but you know...could not exactly do that...
The high-fiving and choreography using hair tools like combs and curlers as props to punctuate their messages.
"TRIFLIN'" (elongated out to three syllables: "Try-fa-lin")
"Can you pay my AUTOMO-BILLS?"
That it reminds me of my friend Liz's birthday party in 7th grade where we dressed up in afros and danced to it.
The really awful 90s 'lip-liner-darker-than-lipstick' look.
Their enviably full, glossy lips.
That the candidate they came up with to help them in hard times was a basket- "balla"
Basically the "we're worth it" attitude. Really, everyone could learn so much from this. LOVE it.

remember the email i sent you the other day? Well i was debating using the lyrics from this song instead... but due to some relevancy to my life, i chose not to. don't ask... I'm not even going there.
haha oh dear, i totally did the lip-liner-darker-than-lipstick thing in 7th grade. i'm not sure how i got away with it.
...or did i...
I. Don't. Think. You. Do. SOoooo. You. And. Me. Are. Through.
Sound familiar? Haha. I wanted to wear some of their pleather suits. So hot.
Say My Name was a favorite of mine. As was, No, No, No.
With all the hip hop stars misbehaving (i.e. Chris Brown - beating on Rhianna, and Kanye - VMAs), I'm sooooo happy I can still be obsessed with Beyonce.
I saw her in concert when I was in high school. I held up my cell phone, with an ex-boyfriend on the line, to Dangerously in Love.
Pathetic but true. Oh B. Love her.
amen and amen. i want to be beyonce. her...or any of the real housewives of new york city. they're all white, but since we're talking about fantasies, there you go.
p.s. i hope you did get yogurt with a fellow byu cynic during the game. ever the dutiful girlfriend, i actually watched it. and they got smeared!
Oh it was more than yogurt...I dare say Thai food with a friend!!
Ahhh!! I wish that we had gotten a picture of that hair salon SO BADLY! I don't know how much those "independent women" (to use another Destiny's Child song reference) in there would have appreciated our gawking and taking photos of them, though... that was pretty amazing though
